For Our Parents

Dear Parents:

Economic disparity is the foundation of poverty in our communities. My Other Guidance Counselor is designed to help start the conversation with your child regarding career choices that will provide them with an income and good life. The goal of this website is to help students identify the subjects they enjoy in school and the career choices available to them in that discipline.

As you will see, we list careers by degree - high school diploma, Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree. College is not for everyone, some children are not interested in pursuing a four year degree. There are plenty of excellent vocations that don’t require a college degree - and in fact some of these vocations earn more money than college graduates without the heavy debt.

How can you help your child on this site? Discuss what subjects they enjoy the most in school, or the subjects where they earn their best grades. Encourage them in their natural gifts and abilities. When a person can make a living doing something they really enjoy - it doesn’t feel like work to them.
